DANFO BISTRO - RESTAURANT REVIEW

Urm... First of all, SUBSCRIBE TO MY BLOG. No, I'm not shouting, I'm on my second cup of coffee.

Last week Saturday was the best weekend I've had this year. Aunty Yehmah and I visited Nike Art Gallery at Oniru, Lagos. The video will be up on my IGtv channel this weekend. Aunty Yehmah will also post on her YouTube channel as well. Then we visited the famous Danfo Bistro Located at Ikoyi. It was a day full of vibrant African prints and lots of happy colours I must say.

Danfo Bistro is done up to imitate the famous Lagos yellow danfo bus. I love how the interior is done up with little wooden yellow danfo buses like the time you find people hawking at the beach and plate numbers. It wasn't surprising to see the place packed full of people but we got seats easily beside the ceiling to floor window which afforded us a nice view.

The menu is very simple and creative. They offer breakfast & brunch too!

For drinks, I got their "Virgin Sangria" which is a mixture of zobo, pineapples and oranges. Its basically a zobo Chapman. Aunty Yehmah got their "Virgin Mojito" which is a mixture of lime, mint, brown sugar, soda and sprite. I tried it and found it delicious. It is a great drink for the starter we got.

As a starter, we got "Rodo Dodo" which is basically deep fried battered chicken.  We got eight (8) pieces of juicy Chicken which is great for the price. What I didn't catch up on was that "rodo" was "atarodo" which is the Yoruba (western Nigerian language) name for "Scotch bonnets". The Tzaziki sauce was supposed to calm the heat (spiciness) down but The Chicken was so juicy I kept forgetting to dip and before I knew it, my tongue was on fire. I have very low tolerance for pepper and I found that the ginger in my zobo heightened the heat. Aunty Yehmah was eating it like a breeze. It was delicious! Thank God we don't send anybody cause we used our hands and it was even bone cracking good (don't ask me how I know).

As our main course, Aunty Yehmah got their "Sloppy Friday" and I got their "Shhh.Akara" (which is pronounced "sha-ka-ra")
The Sloppy Friday is a burger with suya minced beef, fried plantains and a side of french fries. The Shhh.Akara is a Pita bread wrap containing Akara (fried bean cake),tomatoes, onions, rodo sauce and tzaziki".

Even though Aunty Yehmah only gave me small of her burger to taste (insert sad face) I really enjoyed how the sweetness of the fried plantains and the slight spiciness of the minced suya beef complimented each other. The bun was soft and toasted just right. None of that staleness get at...

My wrap came with sausages and I'm not complaining because it was delicious. I could've argued that the akara was chicken and for this reason, I will finally start thinking of trying a vegetarian diet.

The ambiance was nice and the waiters were attentive even though people kept pouring in. We eventually moved to their roof top were they have the danfo bus bar (you've definitely seen a lot of Instagram pictures featuring this bus). The breeze was very nice but the nicest thing is watching cars speed by, not forgetting it's Ikoyi and you'd probably see a Rolls Royce float by right after a BMW.
Shisha is also served on the rooftop so the smokers are not left behind.

I thoroughly enjoyed everything we were served and honorable mention to the fries which came in their skin and was absolutely delicious. We literally gobbled it down.
