SUGARCANE RESTAURANT & BAR - REVIEW

Hello Foodie fam,

I'm here celebrating myself  for finally getting this review written and sent out. That's usually the toughest part, actually writing the review.

Located at Ologun Agbaje Street VI, Sugarcane has been on my radar for sometime now and I finally got around to visiting. I went with a battalion of friends so we could really explore their menu. First of all, thank God for google maps.

I immediately noticed walking into Sugarcane that the interior decorator did a great job bringing the minimalist vision of the owner to life. Sugarcane is done in mostly white and black with sprinkles of yellows here and there.
I made a video version of this review for my foodie fam that hate to read long posts and its available to watch on my IGTV Channel in a couple of days

Immediately we got seated, a waiter came with two cups of complimentary cinnamon popcorn and their "hefty" menu. I use the word hefty because the menu had many pages but the good part is its available on their website so you can decide on what you want before you get there otherwise, you wee sleep there. I exaggerate, lol.

We were coming from an art exhibition that served unlimited glasses of bubbly and finger foods. You already know about my love hate relationship with indiscipline so I got to Sugarcane with too much in my upset belly and decided I would only drink water for the rest of the weekend (LOL).

Aunty Yehmah got their Mixed Berry Smoothie, Tope got their Strawberry Mojito and Ayo got their Pineapple and Ginger Mint Julep. I got water (insert straight face).

The drinks when they arrived (which was timely) looked really good it was almost a crime to drink them however, the strawberry mojito was overpowered by mint and alcohol...don't ask me how I know. The smoothie was voted the best of the three and my water came with lemon slices which was very refreshing thank you very much.

*unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the Pineapple and ginger mint julep

Now, to the food!
This time around, I promise I did not get pasta but Tope did and she made sure it was very spicy. She got their Cajun Jambalaya Pasta, Aunty Yehmah got their Chicken and Waffle Sandwich with french fries, Ayo got their Cheese Burger with a side of sweet potato fries, Sike got their Hawaiian Burger with french fries and I got their Mofongo and beans.

   Cajun Jambalaya Pasta

As I mentioned earlier, Tope requested that her food be extra spicy and they hit the nail on the head. If there was anything wrong with the dish, I wont have noticed seeing as my mouth was on fire after the first bite. (I have low tolerance for pepper). It has sausages, chicken and shrimp in a tomato base sauce. Tope cleaned her plate and to be honest, the meal was delightful. The bread served with the pasta on the other hand...hmn!

 Chicken and Waffle Sandwich
Yehmah initially could not decide between this or their strawberry pancake but finally settled for this cause Chicken! lol.

The waffles were very fluffy and I ended up eating quite a bit of her waffles (I see you judging me silently so I'll throw it out there that I'm a size 6 and move on) The Chicken on the other hand would've done with a little more seasoning. Yehmah found her sandwich a little too dry for her liking.

 Cheese Burger

*in this picture, you can sneak a peak of the pineapple and ginger mint julep

The burger was a regular sized burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Ayo felt her burger was dry as well but it was satisfying and the bun was fresh. Her sweet potato fries came in big chunks and could've been a dish on its own with the right sauce. We all grabbed a piece.

 Hawaiian Burger

That was my first burger with a slice of pineapple on top of the beef patty and it actually wasn't a bad choice as I initially thought. The sweetness of the pineapple added a nice twist to the burger.

at this point, I'm just gonna say; the french fries were so chewy nobody ate up to half of theirs. Thank God I had water to push it down.

Mofongo and Beans

I chose this dish because I was curious and it was actually one of the best meals we got that day. It had mashed ripe plantain at the bottom followed by beans then topped with pieces of beef. Served with tomato sauce. This is "Ewagoyin" that traveled to the abroad and came back. It was everyone's second best dish after Tope's Jambalaya. I really enjoyed this dish especially after drowning it in the sauce it came with. Definitely recommend.

Sugarcane has a lovely ambiance and you don't grow old waiting for your food to arrive. Our meals came together so none of that awkward waiting while your friend eats.

Our waiter was very attentive but I felt she was trying very hard to seem nice to us. I caught her sigh when we were figuring out which card to pay with and she point blank told us to stop filming her (because I was filming a video version for you guys and well, she was our waiter).

I would go back again to explore their dessert menu since they seem to have that on lock down.
