NOK by Alara - Restaurant Review

Hey Foodie Fam!

Hope everyone is eating right and staying hydrated?

Okay, so on Sunday some friends and I decided to checkout NOK by Alara as we've never been there and we've heard so many conflicting reviews.

We were immediately blown away by the architecture and the decor. It had the whole African theme going on; raffia mats, raffia chairs, an African playlist with a host in "Iro and Buba"

We were seated immediately at a table with a view of the outdoor sitting area and a bowl of potato chips was served. I really enjoyed it that I forgot to take a picture. Sorry guys! Also, before we go on I think it’s worthy to note that the kitchen closes at 3pm and re-opens at 7pm.

I liked how attentive the waiters were; immediately we were seated, each of us got our individual food & drink menu (you know that thing some restaurants do where they hoard the menu and you have to share)

Once we got a good look at the menu, my first thought was to get up and go somewhere else to be very honest. I had made the mistake of showing up hungry you see. We got there at 12:30pm and they were serving their brunch menu. I wasn't prepared for that but they had a special menu offering Amala & Ewedu with Gbegiri which was a good option to have (I didn't get this because I had heard it wasn't very filling)

When I think of NOK I think of fine African dining. It's the perfect place to bring your expatriate friends to experience Nigerian food.

For drinks I got Lagosian, Clay got Oyinbo Naija and Irre got their Baobab Malt. Lets just say we got a cup of ice with a splash of cocktail. My drink was pleasant enough till the ice started to melt and I had a glass of strawberry infused water. Clay made a mistake and Irre's evaporated into thin air before we said "Jack".
Lagosian

Baobab Malt (Irre started drinking before I took the picture)
Oyinbo Naija
Clay trying Oyinbo Naija for the first time. LMAO
I got their Corn beef, Egg & Cheese Sandwich.

It was served with a side of vegetable salad that complimented the sandwich perfectly. The bread was really good with a bit of crunch to it but if I had not seen cheese on the menu I wouldn't have guessed that there was any.

Clay got their Suya-Crusted Steak and Scrambled Eggs.

The presentation was very pleasing to look at and I loved how fluffy the eggs were even though I would've preferred it to be served hotter than it was. The steak was very juicy. All together I'd say it was Suya with a PhD. It was served with a side of sauteed peppers.
This was voted the best plate.

Irre got their Yam and Oxtail Hash Brown with Fried Egg and Hollandaise Sauce. Now his plate was very interesting. The yam was mashed with the Oxtail sandwiched between the yam and the fried egg. His plate won second place. Mine was obviously too basic to be anything but third place.

Afterwards we went and wolfed down Yam chips and chicken wings. LOL

I want to go back and give their main menu a try but one thing is for sure, I wont be going there hungry. Have you been?
